THE relaunched Derby Ramathon will have a new city centre home and even more places next year, organisers say.

This year's race – the first for 18 years – saw it sell out, with many people left disappointed that they could not run the half-marathon distance.

Next year's race will be different as the number of entrants will be doubled to 4,000 and the runners will start and finish at the iPro Stadium.

Due to the huge success of this year's event, which began at Elvaston Castle on Sunday June 8, organisers have already been swamped with a huge number of enquiries about the 2015 race.

Richard Kay, Ramathon race director, said: "We were inundated with requests from people who missed out on securing an entry this year.

"Our plan for the 2015 race is to increase the entry limit to meet this demand while keeping the event of a high quality.

"This will mean the majority of runners who want to race the Ram will get the chance to enter."

Derby County Football Club has been confirmed as a partner and the half-marathon will start and finish at the stadium in Pride Park when the race is held on Sunday, June 7.

John Vicars, chief operating officer at the club, said: "Everyone connected with Derby County is delighted to see the Ramathon back and bigger than ever.

"There is only one place where it should start and finish – and that is the home of the Rams."

The planned route will still take runners through the villages of Shardlow, Ambaston and Elvaston.

They will also jog through the Castle grounds, and competitors will again be able to enjoy the amazing scenery which helped make the event so iconic.

In excess of £25,000 was raised from this year's event for a number of different charities.

Kat Cox is the events fund-raising manager for the Alzheimer's Society, which was one of the nominated charities.

She said: "We are really delighted to be involved with this year's Ramathon and are pleased that this year's top fund-raiser was supporting the Alzheimer's Society.

"We would like to thank all our fund-raisers for their support.

"The Ramathon is a fantastic event and we look forward to being involved again next year."
