A HEAVILY pregnant and sober mum who attacked a woman during a brawl at a party has been spared jail.
Laura Babij punched her victim in the face, leaving her with a bloodied nose, Derby Crown Court was told.
The 27-year-old, of Chaddesden, had driven to the party with her husband after they were called about an altercation that had taken place in the garden of the Alvaston home.
Mum-of-four Babij, of Cowsley Road, admitted attacking the woman and pleaded guilty to assault.
Judge Jonathan Gosling said he was suspending her six-month prison sentence for 12 months as she was due to have her children returned to her in three weeks' time.
The court was told they had been taken into care.
Judge Gosling said: "This was a disgraceful incident. What possessed you to confront these people when you were heavily pregnant I don't know.
"You got embroiled in it, lost your temper and hit your victim on the nose. She got a very unpleasant injury and had her space violated.
"You are due to have your children returned to you on March 12. This is a critical time for your children and they will be the ones that suffer if you are jailed."
Christopher Dean, prosecuting, said the fight happened at a house in Siddons Street, on July 6 last year.
He said two men got into an argument in the garden of the property and one man pushed another against a fence.
That man called Babij's husband to the party and she drove him there.
Mr Dean said: "The defendant walked up to the woman, who was the partner of one of the two men, and punched her in the face."
The court was told how Babij's previous convictions include robbery, shoplifting, driving offences and two counts of assault, from 2008, for which she received a three-month suspended sentence.
Justin Ablott, for Babij, said his client has suffered from a personality disorder that was diagnosed after the birth of her third child, who is now 18 months old. He said: "There was no pre-meditation on behalf of Mrs Babij. It was a situation that got out of hand quickly."
