Fly-tipping: Criminal investigation launched over rubbish dumped in Derby street

THE dumping of what appeared to be the contents of a front room in a Derby street is now the subject of a criminal investigation.

Normanton Empowerment Team – which is battling for more to be done about fly-tipping in the area – spotted the waste in Newdigate Street on Friday evening.

It included chairs, carpets, cupboards and other storage units.

A city council spokeswoman said this had now been cleared by a clean-up crew, after the authority was informed about it yesterday morning.

She said: "This case is now part of a criminal investigation."

Meanwhile Councillor Asaf Afzal, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and Streetpride, has said that an investigation into a previous fly-tipping incident in Almond Street has been completed.

On June 25, the Derby Telegraph reported how rubbish, including mattresses and furniture, appeared to have been dumped there.

Mr Afzal said it emerged "legitimate arrangements" were made for its collection but that the rubbish looked "unkempt" because it was "tampered with".
