DERBY County striker Mason Bennett is expected to go out on loan again.

The 18-year-old signed a new four-year deal with the Rams yesterday but a chance of playing regular first-team football is seen as an important step in his development.

He spent a spell at League Two club Chesterfield last season and Rams head coach Steve McClaren has said another loan move is likely.

"Mason is an exciting young talent and we are pleased to announce that he has signed a new contract," said McClaren.

"He is one of a number of players that our academy has produced in recent years and he has a lot of potential to work with and develop.

"Mason had a brief loan spell at Chesterfield last season and we will see if we can do something similar this year, which will be another important part of his development."

Bennett is the sixth Derby to sign a new contract this summer.

He follows Jeff Hendrick, Craig Forsyth, Will Hughes, Jake Buxton and Craig Bryson.

At just 15 years and 99 days old, Bennett became Derby's youngest ever player when he was named in the team at Middlesbrough in October 2012.

Sheffield United have been successful in an approach for Derby County defender Kieron Freeman.

United boss Nigel Clough, formerly of Derby, has been a long time admirer of full-back Freeman and had advances rejected for the player earlier in the summer.

It has now been confirmed that a fee has been agreed for the 22-year-old.

The Blades are free to discuss personal terms with the player, who has made 25 appearances for Derby, after joining on a free transfer from rivals Nottingham Forest.
