A WINDSWEPT and wet-through Davina McCall stopped off in Ashbourne on day five of her epic Sport Relief challenge. The TV celebrity has taken on the huge task of riding, swimming and walking her way 500 miles from Edinburgh to London and set off yesterday morning on the fifth leg of her seven-day ordeal from the Peak District village of Edale. She arrived in Fenny Bentley at lunchtime and the 46-year-old had some lunch at the Bentley Brook Inn in the village. Speaking before she set off, Davina said: "I'm in miserable pain now because we've got to day five, and things are hurting a lot. "My legs are really sore, my knees are killing, but my undercarriage is desperate! "I feel like I'm going to walk like John Wayne for a week. "I'm trying to find ways of helping, but nothing really works because the damage was done on the first day and I can't give myself time to repair it – it's just ongoing." The first leg of yesterday's 90-mile journey saw her battling with torrential rain and high winds. But she was in good spirits when she arrived in Fenny Bentley, where she hopped off her bike and ran over to see a group of school children from the village's FitzHerbert Primary School, who had been waiting patiently for her to arrive. From there, she passed through Ashbourne, Yeaveley, Alkmonton, Church Broughton and Rolleston-on-Dove on her way to Burton-on-Trent and Lichfield. She told reporters outside the hotel: "I've nearly been nearly blown off my bike a couple of times but I just keep thinking about the rest of the country and it's nothing compared to what some people are going through – so I just want to get back on my bike and go." Her journey continues today with 112 miles to cycle before embarking on her final day tomorrow, which will see her run a full marathon into London. The challenge will be televised during the Sport Relief coverage in the coming weeks, began last Saturday from Edinburgh Castle, and will finish at Tate Modern, London on Friday.
