SNOW seen today in Derbyshire will be joined by gusts of wind of up to 70mph on Wednesday, forecasters have predicted. The morning will see an icy start with temperatures as low –1C over night. There is the chance of snow on higher areas but the main thing to watch out for will be the icy commute to work. Later in the day however that attention will need to be turned to the wind with gusts of up to 70mph possible across the county. Met Office spokesman, Charlie Powell, said: "There are warnings for both snow and winds with gusts of between 60mph and 70mph across Derbyshire later in the day. "Over night however the winds will ease and into Thursday there will be blustery showers but it will be a better day all round." Looking later into the week the forecast is cold and wet but there are a few glimmers of hope between the clouds. Charlie said: "Friday will start promisingly however rain will move in from the south with rain falling in the evening. "Saturday will be the worst day of the weekend with wind from the north making it fell cold and possibly wintry showers over higher ground. "Sunday meanwhile looks like the best day of the lot looking generally dry day with the a bit of rain. "But for Wednesday I would urge people to keep up to date with all the warnings that the Met Office have in place."
