The iPro Stadium could be bought by The Rams Trust if the owners were to try and sell it.
The news comes after the building was made an Asset of Community Value.
The listing of the stadium would mean if the owners, or any future owners, were to try to sell it, the Derby County Supporter community would have the opportunity to buy it.
Councillor Paul Bayliss, Leader of Derby City Council, said:
"I am proud to announce that the iPro Stadium has been officially listed as an Asset of Community Value by Derby City Council.
I wish to congratulate the Rams Trust on their successful application."
