A MAN who strangled his pet cat with his bare hands has been given a suspended jail sentence and disqualified from keeping animals for life.
Mark Booth, of Ripley, grabbed the four-year-old tabby called Oli and told his wife it was "a nuisance" before killing it, a court was told.
Booth, 53, of Lowes Hill, admitted causing unnecessary suffering to an animal last month.
Booth was given a 14-week jail sentence, suspended for 12 months and was told to do 200 hours of unpaid work.
He must pay £2,458 costs and has been disqualified from keeping or owning animals for life.
