DURHAM proved far more punishing against the Derbyshire bowlers than Scotland the previous day as they set a big target at 273-6 in their Yorkshire Bank 40 match at Chester-le-Street.
Led by 79 from former England t20 skipper Paul Collingwood, the home side put together a solid and mature performance after Falcons skipper Wayne Madsen – for the first time this season – had won the toss.
Mark Footitt followed up his career-best 5-28 against the Scots with 3-55 but the experienced Dynamos took apart a stretched bowling attack, with Madsen taking a rare turn to get through three overs.
Footitt struck with his second ball, in the second over, to have Mark Stoneman caught at square leg and Mark Turner bowled Phil Mustard, who stepped away from his stumps and paid the price.
That was 40-2 but Scott Borthwick made 43 before he looped a catch off his glove to wicketkeeper Richard Johnson off Peter Burgoyne and Ben Stokes added 40 before he fell to mid off from Footitt's bowling.
Collingwood was lbw to a full Footitt ball but his was an outstanding innings, made off 83 balls with seven fours and a six, and set the scene for a bullish 57 not out from Gordon Muchall to finish the Durham innings.
