A ROUTINE one-hour eye test saved a young woman's life after it detected a cyst the size of a golf ball on her brain.

Sarah Atkinson went for a test to get a new pair of glasses – but was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery to drain the dangerous growth.

Now Sarah, 29, of Heanor, has been reunited with the Derby optometrist who alerted medics to the problem.

In an emotional meeting, the deputy manager of a restaurant and bar sobbed as she thanked Philippa Myers for saving her life.

"You saved me," she said. "I can't thank you enough. I didn't want to go to the hospital that day, but I'm glad I did. I feel better now. You saved my life."

Sarah had brain surgery on January 21 – five days after her eye test at Vision Express in Derby's Westfield.
