Benz-Bavarian Duffield are Premier Squash League group winners despite defeat
EVEN though they lost a group match for only the second time this season, Benz-Bavarian Duffield will go into the Premier Squash League play-offs with home advantage in the semi-finals.
The Derbyshire club was beaten 3-2 at Nottingham, with wins for Tania Bailey and Declan James, but the seven points they took from the match were enough to ensure they could not be caught in first place.
They were helped by second-placed Coolhurst London crashing to an unexpected home defeat to Birmingham. Chapel Allerton are now in second with one round of group matches to go after they saw off Pontefract 4-1.
The PSL semis will be played on April 8.

BURTON Albion have snapped up goalkeeper Freddy Hall on a short-term deal.
The 29-year-old Bermuda international has been training with the Brewers and joins the club for the remainder of the League Two season.
Hall, who has six caps for his country, has previously played for Major League Soccer side Toronto FC, Northampton Town and Bermuda Hogges.
"Freddy has been training with us and he has a good pedigree," said Burton boss Gary Rowett.
"With Rob Lainton only on loan, we need to make sure we have adequate cover in the goalkeeping position.
"It will give us a chance to look at him more long-term. He has played at a good level with Toronto FC and this is a chance for him to make a career in England."

The incident happened on the A6 between Ashford and Taddington, Derbyshire, at 8.15am yesterday.
Today, a fire service spokeswoman said: "On Tuesday 18 March, Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service reported that a crew of four firefighters from Bakewell fire station, whilst en route to attend a road traffic collision with one person reported as trapped; where involved in an incident whereby the fire appliance they were travelling in, left the road and overturned.

Derby jobless figure rises for second month in succession
DERBY'S jobs market still seems to be suffering something of a hangover from Christmas.
Before he delivered his Budget speech, Chancellor George Osborne was buoyed by the latest UK unemployment figures.
They showed that unemployment dropped by 63,000 to 2.33 million in three months to January, with the jobless rate at 7.2%.
The Office for National Statistics also said the number of people in employment rose to 30.19 million.
And the number of people claiming jobseeker's allowance fell by 34,600 in February to 1.17 million.
But locally, the news was not so good.
Figures for Derby showed that the city's dole queue grew for the second consecutive month – rising in February from 5,408 to 5,598 – a difference of 190 or 3.5%.
In the rest of the county, the number of people claiming jobseeker's allowance remained static last month, rising by just 13 to 10,982.
The figures come after the number of people looking for work in Derby and Derbyshire went up in January.
However, business leaders expected the dole queue to grow post-Christmas as a number of the temporary festive contracts came to an end. Despite the rise in claimants in February, Derby and Derbyshire remain in a better position than 12 months ago.
During the same month last year, the number of people looking for work in Derby was 7,891 and in Derbyshire it was 15,470.
Chris Hobson, head of information and representation at the Chamber of Commerce for Derbyshire, said: "The number of claimants has increased in both the city and county but the remnants of any remaining seasonal contracts coming to an end could account for this.
"The important thing to remember is that the underlying year-on-year trend is still positive and shows the longer-term progression of the economy over the past 12 months was in the right direction.
"The figures also tally with an early analysis of the findings of our latest Quarterly Economic Survey, which show that in the first quarter of this year, 31% of firms increased the size of their workforce and only 10% reduced it.
"Looking ahead to the next three months, a third of firms expect to recruit more staff."

Jack O'Connell credits Nigel Clough with Derby County's success this season
RISING film star and lifelong Derby County fan Jack O'Connell says he credits former manager Nigel Clough for much of the success which the Rams have enjoyed this season.
"We've faltered a bit in recent weeks but I'm still very positive about our position in the table," said Jack.
"When we were relegated, I was worried we would go into free fall and end up in League One like both Leicester and Forest did.
"Thankfully, that's not happened. We're chasing promotion and I still credit (Nigel) Cloughie for building up a strong foundation.
"I think we can go on and get promotion. If we don't but we finish above Forest, it will have been a good season."

Nationwide announces plan to close or rebrand remaining Derbyshire Building Society branches
THE parent company of Derbyshire Building Society has announced plans to close 10 more branches.
As part of its plans to integrate the Derbyshire brand into its estate, Nationwide Building Society intends to shut outlets in Asbourne, Bakewell, Belper, Clay Cross, Glossop, Littleover, Oakwood, Shirebrook, Sinfin and Staveley.
A further 10 Derbyshire branches will be re-branded as Nationwide. These are: Allenton, Beeston, Borrowash, Burton, Derby, Mansfield, Mickleover, Nottingham, Sutton in Ashfield and Swadlincote.
And seven Nationwide branches will integrate with nearby Derbyshire branches. These are Alfreton, Ashby, Chesterfield, Heanor, Ilkeston, Matlock and Ripley.
Nationwide first announced plans the integrate the Derbyshire brand within its business in May last year.
The changes are due to take place over a single weekend this winter.
Customer Rob Steven said he had received no warning from Nationwide about the changes.
He said: "It's one big farce. My wife and I went to the Littleover branch and there was a note saying it was closed.
"We then went to Mickleover and that was closed to. Then we tried East Street in the city centre and that was shut.
"We spent 45 minutes going between them. Why not put a note up saying they were all closed? Other people in the city centre said they had done the same thing as us.
"The closures are a real shock. How can they just shut branches at the drop of a hat without telling customers anything?"
In a statement, Nationwide said: "The group has looked closely at its sites in and around Derbyshire and considered a number of factors before making any decisions.
"When determining how the new network would look, one of the key considerations was to minimise the impact on customers.
"Subsequently, the new footprint will ensure 89% of Derbyshire customers are within five miles of a Nationwide branch, an increase from 69% under current arrangements.
"Customers of the Derbyshire will have access to 27 branches when the new network in the region is in place and over 700 branches across the UK.
"As a result, customers of the Derbyshire will have increased access to self-service channels including a larger network of ATMs together with award winning internet and mobile banking facilities.
"Nationwide aims to retain as many employees as possible, with redeployment to other branches in the network or across the wider business.
"Where redeployment is not possible, employees will receive training, support and advice on future opportunities.
"No employees are being put at formal risk of redundancy today and Nationwide continues to work with them on the detail of how the changes may affect them."

Burton Albion sign Callum McFadzean on loan from Sheffield United
BURTON Albion manager Gary Rowett has bolstered his promotion-chasing squad with the addition of Sheffield United midfielder Callum McFadzean on an initial one month loan deal.
McFadzean (20) is a product of the Sheffield United academy and made his debut for the Blades as a substitute against the Brewers in the Capital One Cup back in August 2012, and also started the game against Burton earlier on this season.
Predominantly a left-sided player, McFadzean, who has also represented England at Under-16 level earlier in his career, will add some competition to the Brewers midfield.
Rowett was pleased to be able to add McFadzean to his promotion-chasing group with the big games coming thick and fast over the next month.
"We are delighted to have got Callum on board" said the Brewers boss, "he is a player that we have watched a lot and we are really grateful to Nigel [Clough] at Sheffield United for allowing him to join us. He can play anywhere down the left-hand side, has good quality and his energy and versatility will be a great addition to the squad for this important month."
McFadzean goes straight into the squad for tomorrow's game away at Scunthorpe United and will wear squad number 15.

Jack O'Connell: Ex-tutor says he always knew actor would hit fame
A DRAMA teacher who once taught Derby's rising film star Jack O'Connell says he always knew the Alvaston actor would become a star.
Ian Smith, of Nottingham's Television Workshop, said he spotted Jack's potential within minutes of meeting him.
Today sees the release in UK cinemas of brutal prison thriller Starred Up, which stars Jack as the lead role.
Jack is also cast in 300: Rise of an Empire, released earlier this month.
And in December, Jack will again hit the cinema screens; this time playing the main character in Angelina Jolie's eagerly-anticipated film, Unbroken.
Asked whether Jack's rise to fame has surprised him, Ian said: "No it hasn't. I can remember him walking through the door as a 13-year-old and within five minutes I knew he was going to be someone special.
"He had a degree of confidence that made him stand out and was at ease within himself.
"I managed to see a sneak preview of Starred Up. It was incredible watching him in it. I soon as I saw it I got in touch with him and said I thought it was a career best, although I suspect there is more to come from him. I thought it was a really exciting and electric performance.
"What people don't realise about Jack is his versatility as an actor. He's often cast as a bad boy but that's just one side of Jack. He can transform. He showed that played Bobby Charlton in United.
"When you look at his credits, it is exception what he has achieved in a relatively small period of time.

Are villagers growing to love Spondon's wind turbines?
SPONDON is "coming around" to liking two 130-metre-tall wind turbines that have started producing energy for the first time, according to some of its residents.
The structures, which will produce 10,000 megawatt hours of energy when fully-operational, have proved to be a controversial talking point in the village since they were installed in December.
One of residents' main concerns was the prospect of them making a noise but that has not been the case in testing, although Severn Trent, which has installed the turbines, said they would be monitoring it.
Willowcroft Road resident Fred Whaley said he did not have a problem with the turbine.
The 69-year-old said: "I have heard people having concerns about noise but I've not heard a thing.
"I'm not bothered by the turbines and they are obviously there to produce energy which is good."
Sally Giakalis crrct said she was shocked to see them appear at first but has grown to like them.
The West Road resident, who owns Spondon Bakery with her husband, Vagelis, said: "They can be seen from all over Spondon but anything that brings down energy prices is a good thing.
"I was very shocked to see them at first though.
"As a business our costs are horrendous. Ten years ago we were paying £34 a month for gas and electricity, now it's £150.
"I'm absolutely fine with them now though. We've also not heard them make any noise."
The 49-year-old said there were bigger issues in the village. She said: "Parking and traffic is far more concerning. It's a nightmare."
Chaddesden resident Vivian Stevenson drives past the Megaloughton structures to go to work at Asda Spondon.
The 57-year-old said: "I've not heard any noise myself and we've not had complaints in the store.
"When I first saw them appear, I thought they were huge.
"But I've really got used to them being there."
Spondon ward councillor Evonne Williams said she had noticed opinion had changed in the village.
She said: "From the outset residents have been very 50/50 about them but that is now 60/40. There are some people who still hate them and their opinions will not change but plenty of other people are in favour.
"A lot of people have said how great they think the engineering is.
"I have only had one resident complaining since they started turning around."
A spokeswoman for Severn Trent said that a quarter of the company's energy came from renewable sources.
She said: "The wind turbines now add to this and will hopefully see us generating a third of our energy from renewable sources by 2015.
"As well as reducing our carbon footprint, by generating more renewable energy, we help to protect our customers from future energy price rises."

Headteacher happy after 200 parents fined £70 for bad parking
THE headteacher of a Derby school has praised a campaign which has caught more than 200 parents flouting parking rules outside of schools in the city.
Maxine Bull, from St Chad's C of E Nursery and Infant School, in Normanton, said a grandparent had been injured by a speeding car outside of the school, 18 months ago.
And now, Mrs Bull said she hopes the Derby City Council crackdown scheme – which aims to catch people parking on the "keep clear" markings at schools using a patrolling CCTV car – continues.
She said: "I think it is really good that Derby City Council are fining parents because we have had so many near-misses outside the school.
"We did have an accident about 18 months ago with a speeding car where one of our grandparents was injured.
"It was only in my last newsletter that I warned parents about accidents outside the school."
Yesterday, the Derby Telegraph reported that a total of 217 motorists had been handed £70 fines since the scheme was launched in November.
The vehicle, with a CCTV camera mounted on top, has been monitoring 22 schools in Derby, in the morning and afternoon, to check drivers have parked correctly.
The council's enforcement officers can issue penalty charge notices if people park on a school's yellow zig-zag lines, on pavements and verges where there are yellow lines, or adjacent to a dropped kerb when a complaint is received.
The latest figures from the city council show 32 people were fined in Sunny Grove, Chaddesden, near Cherry Tree Hill Primary School, with 22 people being caught outside of Breadsall Hill Top Infant and Junior School.
While 26 motorists were also handed fines for parking incorrectly outside of St Chad's Nursery and Infant School.
Headteacher Mrs Bull said: "The road the school is on, Gordon Road, is very short and, at present, there are roadworks in surrounding streets which has added extra traffic.
"There is always tight-space for parking outside the school anyway.
"I welcome the scheme. Creating that space for parents to walk across the road more safely and reduce the number of accidents further down the lane is really good."
People have also taken to the Derby Telegraph to give their views on the crackdown.
Online user, smurf391, said: "Excellent news. Any chance of coming to Laund Nook in Belper. It's madness here too!"
While TRmin8tor said: "The same problem exists outside every school. Are children born without legs now days? It seems that they have lost the ability to walk."
People have also taken to the Derby Telegraph's Facebook page to welcome the news.
Jane Knape said: "Good but the penalties need to be higher and tougher!"
Craig Cowley added: "About time. These inconsiderate parents who put kids safety at risk. They should put points on their licences too."
