LAST night a dramatic 90-minute rescue took place after a man became stuck on ledge while trying to rescue his pet dog.
His girlfriend watched on as he and the dog were trapped on the ledge which was around 12 feet below the top of Mercaston Quarry in Mugginton Lane End.
Fire crews from Kingsway and Duffield, as well as specially trained rope-rescue teams from Matlock fire station, were on the scene from around 9pm until 10.30pm.
Crews abseiled down the side of the quarry wall to first rescue the man followed shortly after by his pet.
The ambulance service attended the scene but both the dog and man suffered no injuries.
