THE body of a man found in the River Derwent yesterday is thought to be that of missing horse-trainer Owen Brennan.
The body was found in the water at Darley Park near the cricket pitch at about 12.10pm yesterday by a passer-by, who contacted police. The 77-year-old was last seen at his home in Wheeldon Avenue, Derby, at 4.45pm on Monday, December 17 by his wife Pat.
Concerns were raised because Mr Brennan had suffered a stroke in September and had been suffering with memory loss. Police have been searching for Mr Brennan in Derby and Nottinghamshire, where he had friends.
Water and mountain rescue teams scoured the River Derwent and other areas in search for the missing man.
The body is yet to be formally identified but a spokesman from Derbyshire police said that officers believed it was Mr Brennan's.
