STRIKER Conor Sammon has been given the thumbs up ahead of Derby County's home game against Birmingham City.
Sammon has scored only twice in 16 appearances since his £1.2m move from Wigan Athletic but he is expected to lead the Rams' attack tonight. He played as a lone striker at Crystal Palace last Saturday, supported by midfielder Craig Bryson.
Derby lost 3-0 and manager Nigel Clough is likely to revert to two up front with Sammon, Theo Robinson and Nathan Tyson vying for the positions.
"We will try to get two back up front for the home game," said Clough. "So it will be two from three but Conor's work-rate will keep him up there at the forefront of the strikers.
"We played two up at Millwall, Conor and Theo, and they were not brilliant.
"Conor got another chance in difficult circumstances last Saturday. It was difficult for him because Crystal Palace had two big centre-halves and Mile Jedinak sat just in front.
"Every time Conor got the ball he seemed to be surrounded by three players, so it was hard for him."
