Work to construct a skating rink consisting of real ice got under way in Derby's Market Place yesterday. The open-air rink will be open every day from December 1 to January 6, apart from Christmas Day. Last year, the rink attracted more than 35,000 people after organisers announced they had ditched fake ice in favour of the real thing.
