WHAT'S IT GOT GOING FOR IT?
With East Midlands Airport on its doorstep, not to mention the world-famous Donington Park motor racing circuit, Castle Donington attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.
But what's it like to live there?
Well, given its location in the heart of the East Midlands' "golden triangle", it's certainly easy to get around. Officially within North West Leicestershire, the village is actually nearer to Derby and Nottingham than Leicester, but all three major regional centres can be reached quickly via the M1.
Although little more than a mound remains of the original castle from which the village takes its name, Castle Donington has some fine historic buildings, including several Tudor houses and an impressive medieval parish church.
Property-wise, there is a mix of old and new, with traditional two-bedroom terraces costing from about £115,000 to £125,000.
Modern three-bedroomed detached homes start from about £200,000, while five-bedroomed detached properties start at around £375,000. Larger, listed properties commanding scenic views can fetch up to £1 million.
EATING OUT
With its great range of bistros, restaurants, traditional pubs and tearooms, Castle Doington has something to suit every palate and pocket.
Sample the Mediterranean-style menu at the Nags Head's award-winning restaurant or tuck into a hearty hand-raised pork pie washed down with one of a great selection of real ales at The Cross Keys.
Tylers tearooms serves evening meals as well as breakfast and lunchtime snacks. The premises are unlicensed but diners can bring their own wine or beer for a small corkage charge.
HANGING OUT
Get your motor running and book a track day at Donington Park. Whether you're a novice, intermediate or advanced driver, you can follow in the tyre tracks of your Formula One heroes – in your own car.
Hang out with bikers from across the UK at British Super Bikes or see your favourite rock bands live at the annual Download Festival, a regular feature of Donington.
Castle Donington has thriving rugby union, football and cricket clubs, with most team sports played on Moira Dale Playing Fields.
Other leisure activities, including gym and fitness sessions and swimming in an outdoor pool during the summer months, are available to all at Castle Donington Community College.
SHOPPING
There's a wide variety of shops and amenities, including a Co-op, post office, hair salons, tearooms, and doctors' and dentists' surgeries.
SCHOOLS
The village has two primary schools – St Edward's C of E and Orchard Primary. Castle Donington Community College, rated "good" by Ofsted, is a middle school which recently converted to an academy.
From age 14 most pupils attend Hind Leys School, in Shepshed, which Ofsted also rates as "good".
TRAVEL
Trains, planes and automobiles… the M1 and its intersection with the A42/M42 are just minutes' away, as is East Midlands Airport for international and domestic flights. East Midlands Parkway train station is less than a quarter of an hour's drive, and there are regular bus services to Derby, Leicester and Nottingham.
