PATIENTS living in Ilkeston and Long Eaton could be able to access their GP on weekday evenings and weekends under new proposals.
GPs in the towns are to trial plans to remain open between Mondays and Fridays from 4pm until 8pm and, depending on demand, at weekends from 8am until 8pm.
But they also plan to reduce the Minor Injury Unit at Ilkeston Community Hospital from running 24 hours a day, to operating from 8am until 10pm.
The NHS Erewash Clinical Commissioning Group, which has come up with the plans, said four people visit the unit between 10pm and 8am on average, but it needs two members of staff at all times.
The new arrangements will be tested in Ilkeston from October and in Long Eaton from January next year. The MIU opening hours will reduce from October 6.
