DEFIANT Danielle Tyler plans to use a beauty competition to show mums that they can still accomplish their ambitions after they have children.

The Derbyshire entrant was kicked out of the Miss England competition when she told organisers she had a three-year-old daughter.

But she is now back competing in Miss Great Britain and will take part in the Miss Midlands regional finals on Thursday of next week.

Danielle, 23, of Belper, hopes to prove that mums can still enjoy other activities after having children.

She said: "I want to get across that, just because you are a mum in this day and age – single or not – it doesn't mean you have to stop your life if you have a child.

"Even if I don't go through, I will continue to stick up for mums because I have been so insulted, so I want to do what I can for them."

Danielle applied to enter the Miss England competition and was originally accepted.

A friend then saw on the competition's website that women with children were not allowed to enter.

"I was absolutely gutted," said the mum of three-year-old Annelise.

"I'd started getting everything together for it and it was really exciting.

"It was embarrassing having to tell everyone that I wasn't going to be in it."

Danielle has not let motherhood stop her from pursuing a career in promotions.

She works for Branded Promotions, where the shifts are flexible, and is undertaking a degree in business administration with Vision2learn – an online learning centre.

Although a single parent, she has a partner, Jake Taylor, 21. She was surprised and upset to hear that she would not be able to compete in Miss England.

But she then heard about Miss Great Britain and was delighted to find out she would be allowed to enter.

Now she is getting ready for the regional finals next week. The ex-Belper School pupil added: "I'm really excited – even more so now. Originally, I entered for a bit of a laugh.

"I don't think I'm anything special but being kicked out before has made me really want to do it now."

Kate Solomons, the national director for Miss Great Britain, will be hosting the show next week.

She is seven months pregnant herself and thinks it is fantastic that Danielle will be setting an example to mums.

She said: "The first ruling I changed in 2012 was that married women and those with children could enter.

"If Danielle has a supportive family and partner, there is no reason why she can't still be a great mum."

But Miss England director Angie Beasley said: "It is both unfair on the child and family to take the mother away from home for the year while she travels the globe helping charity causes for children.

"It raises issues about who would take care of the children whose mother was fortunate to win."
