IF anything confirms that the election of police commissioners is nothing more than an expensive political stunt, it is the actions of the University of Derby Students' Union which decided to ban the UKIP candidate from a recent debate.
Of more concern, however, must be the logic behind this decision.
It has labelled a legitimate candidate's political party as racist and pursuing extremist views.
This is clearly wrong and is a dangerous and disgraceful abuse of its powers.
Everyone should question their understanding of democracy before they vote or offer any form of support for the university's students' union in the future.
