THE boss of an animal rescue centre is accused of causing "unneccesary suffering" to turkeys, cockerels, lamb, sheep, a goose, horses and piglets.
Lindsay Newall, who runs Burton Wildlife and Animal Rescue Centre, left the animals without food and water, a court heard.
Ms Newall, of Burton, faces 31 counts of causing unnecessary suffering to animals.
A five-day trial began today at Stafford Magistrates' Court.
In a case brought by the RSPCA, the court was told a large number of animals were found to be thin and malnourished in November 2012.
The centre has a sanctuary in Etwall and a hospital located in Burton.
Ms Newall denies the charges.
