A FAMILY-of-four were rescued at 5am this morning after being missing in the Peak District for seven hours. The two adults and two children had been walking their dog on Kinder Scout – a 2,000ft high, windswept area within the Dark Peak. They became lost yesterday evening and called for help when it began getting dark at 8pm. Mountain rescue teams from Buxton, Edale, Glossop and Kinder were called to search the vast hill. By 1am, the family were still missing and so Derby Mountain Rescue Team was drafted in to expand the search. The family were finally found by a dog search team at 3am – seven hours after calling for help. A spokesman for Derby Mountain Rescue Team said the family members were "very cold but otherwise well". He said it took rescuers a further two hours to get them off the peak. Describing the rescue effort, he said: "A rescue party were then dispatched up one of the steepest routes on to the hill, carrying equipment including several stretchers in case the found party were unable to be walked off. "At around 5am, the family had been safely evacuated from the hill and the rescue teams were stood down." Approximately 70 volunteers took part in the rescue mission. * Derby Mountain Rescue Team is a registered charity that relies on public donations. All team members are unpaid volunteers, on call 24 hours a day 365 days of the year. If anyone wishes to help the Derby Team raise funds they can contact the DMRT Secretary on 07050 155537.
