A GAME of bingo in Burton carried on for nearly 30 minutes while two nurses tried to save a man who had suffered a heart attack. The pair of nurses were in the middle of their game at the Mecca Bingo in Burton when the man was taken ill just before 9pm. Trained first-aiders from the bingo hall were on hand but the nurses stepped in to help keep the man alive until an ambulance arrived. But while the man, who is in his sixties, was collapsed on the ground the 200 players continued their game with numbers called out like normal. One player told The Sun newspaper: "A man was seemingly dying and people were playing bingo like nothing was happening at the hall last Wednesday." Mecca Bingo have defended the hall's actions saying they followed national guidance that had been given to them. A spokesman for the company said: "We follow what we have been told by the emergency services. "It is safer for the game to continue instead of having 200 people leaving the hall as the ambulance arrived. "We have trained first-aiders on site but it was just by luck that there happened to be two nurses there. "We hope the man makes a full recovery."
