DRIVERS are being warned about a lane closure on the A38 in Derby next week. One lane will be closed for nearly a week from next Tuesday at the A38 Markeaton roundabout for essential improvement work. The work is part of a scheme to widen the approach and the roundabout as well as installing new traffic signals. Although most of the work will be carried out during daytime off-peak closures, a section of drainage work cannot be done without closing the nearside lane on the approach to the roundabout. The lane will be closed from the early hours of next Tuesday morning and if the work goes to plan is scheduled to reopen at 0600 on Monday, April 28. Project Manager Kevin Harvey said: "In the long-term, this scheme will help reduce congestion, promote growth and improve safety for road users. "We would advise drivers to leave extra time for their journeys or use alternative routes while we have to close the lane from next Tuesday, so our crews can safely carry out the necessary work. "We apologise for any disruption and ask for drivers to be patient while we carry out this important work." The scheme is part of a £317 million improvement programme designed to boost local economies, reduce congestion and improve safety on the strategic road network in England.
