Burton Albion: Zander Diamond loaned to Northampton Town

ZANDER Diamond has probably played his last game for Burton Albion after joining Northampton Town on a 93-day emergency loan. The 28-year-old centre-half was a mainstay of the side which reached the play-offs last season but has found opportunities limited this time around. A partnership of Ian Sharps and Shane Cansdell-Sherriff has kept the former Aberdeen man on the bench - with a foot injury in the summer also affecting the early part of his season. "It's important to stress he hasn't done anything wrong," said Brewers boss Gary Rowett of the likeable fans' favourite. "He's been a brilliant pro and has never complained once about not playing. "He also never tried to instigate a move away. "Players want to play football and we want to keep them all here. "But every now and then you've got to let people go out and do what they want to do." Diamond, who is out of contract in the summer, made 57 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals. Albion have a 24-hour recall, but with Marcus Holness and Phil Edwards, they are well stocked with options at centre-half.
