DERBY County and Sheffield Wednesday played out a scrappy goalless first half in Tuesday night's Championship clash at Hillsborough. Chances for both sides were at a premium in the opening 45 minutes. Wednesday went closest to opening the scoring in the fifth minute, when Glenn Loovens' header was cleared off the line by Craig Forsyth after a corner from former Rams man Chris Maguire. Jamie Ward provided a threat for Derby down the left but one low centre flashed across the face of goal, while from another, Patrick Bamford could not direct his header goalwards. Craig Bryson and Chris Martin both fired wide for the visitors, who had to soak up a fair bit of pressure, with Will Hughes ending a promising run with a tame shot at Chris Kirkland.
