A FLIGHT had to make an emergency landing at East Midlands Airport this morning.
A spokeswoman for the Castle-Donington based airport said the plane was diverted from Birmingham International Airport and arrived at about 5.40am.
The flight was travelling from Barbados when it was told to land at East Midlands Airport because of a "suspected minor technical fault".
The spokeswoman said at least four fire engines were also called to the scene to await the plane's arrival.
But she could not comment on the nature of the emergency and said calling the fire crews there was "standard procedure".
The spokeswoman said the First Choice aircraft landed safely and no-one was hurt, before it left the airport at 6.50am to complete its journey to Birmingham.
A spokeswoman for Thomson Airways - the combination of First Choice and Thomson's airlines - said: "Thomson Airways is sorry for any inconvenience caused by the diversion of flight TOM831, travelling from Barbados to Birmingham, into East Midlands Airport this morning.
"The diversion was due to a suspected minor technical fault. The aircraft landed as normal and was checked at East Midlands Airport, before being cleared to proceed to Birmingham.
"The safety of passengers and crew is our number-one priority and incidents such as this are very rare."
