IT remains unclear whether the wind or lightning was responsible for a tree falling across a Derby road on Saturday afternoon during a heavy storm.
A passing motorist had a narrow escape after part of the large mature tree fell on top of her car.
The woman was driving along Kedleston Road towards Derby, between Quarn Drive and Memorial Drive, when the section of tree came crashing down.Amazingly she escaped uninjured.
The branches covered the whole width of the carriageway blocking the road to traffic in both directions.
It happened about 2.25pm on Saturday as heavy rain and a thunderstorm hit Derby.
More heavy downpours were expected during Sunday and flood alerts, meaning that flooding is possible, are in force for low-lying land between King's Bromley and Clay Mills and Newton Solney and Castle Donington.
The Met Office's forecaster Kirk Waite said: "The rain was heavy and fast moving and had cleared by the late afternoon on Sunday, but it was accompanied by strengthening winds. They are expected to be around gale force for a time particularly over the Peak District."
More showers are likely evening on Sunday.
"One or two could be quite wintry - we might get some snow fall in north Derbyshire and hail at lower levels."
On the higher ground, above 300m, snow could accumulate to 2cm by Monday morning.
Mr Waite said: "Monday is not going to be especially cold but there will be some showers moving through, mixed with some sleet. It is looking a bit of a messy day.
"It is going to feel like our first days of winter so far, after all this mild, wet weather we've had."
Temperatures are forecast to be between two and seven degs C on Sunday, but with the wind chill factor it could feel as low as -3 degrees C.
