DERBYSHIRE'S fire service has issued a series of tips aimed at keeping you and your loved ones safe this Christmas.
A series of messages have been posted over the weekend by the service on its Twitter page in an effort to prevent tragedies.
Advice includes looking up while at a friend or relatives's house on Christmas Day to check they have a smoke alarm.

- Rushing around doing last-minute shopping/delivering presents? Take extra care on roads. leave plenty of time for the journey #drivetoarrive
- Thinking it's bedtime soon? Ensure Christmas lights are off, candles out, electrics off and all your smoke alarms are working! Night tweeps
- NEVER tackle a fire yourself! Get out, stay out and call 999
- Planning to visit older friends, neighbours and relatives over the next week? Stop, look up and check they have working smoke alarms.
- Out finishing Christmas shopping this weekend? Don't forget batteries for all the toys, so the smoke alarm batteries can stay where they are.
- Temperatures dropping? Take care on the roads. Allow yourself plenty of time.
- DFRS is urging business to stay focused on the safety of staff & premises during the hectic festive season.
