A SURVEY carried out by a Derbyshire shopping centre has revealed that most men leave their Christmas shopping to the last minute. As a result, designer outlet McArthurGlen has nicknamed the period immediately before Christmas the "man dash". The results of the survey showed that 40% of men claimed that they "me-gift" – buying themselves three or more gifts instead of buying for family and friends. Only 28% of women claimed they were culprits of "me-gifting". And more than half of men claimed to do their shopping in one trip, in comparison to women who shop over a series of days. Kenny Murray, manager at the centre in South Normanton, said: "We have an abundance of men in this area who want to find the perfect present for their loved ones but often end up leaving it too late. "During the man dash, it is a great opportunity for all those last-minute shoppers to come to the outlet and buy gifts for all their family and friends in one place, and in one day. "Man-dash gift tips include: size matters, so get the correct size; personalise and look out for helpful hints of what to get; buy longer-lasting gifts than chocolates; be creative; and ask for help from friends, family and shop assistants."
