A MAN accused of sex attacks on seven women has told the judge he was not running the trial fairly.

Harbinder Khatkar was giving evidence at his Derby Crown Court trial, in which he is accused of sex attacks against seven women.

He is accused of attacking six of the women in one night in February in the Pear Tree and Normanton areas of Derby and one woman in her home in Sinfin in December 2011.

Khatkar, 37, of Moorside Crescent, Sinfin, denies all the charges against him.

Yesterday, Khatkar spoke out to Judge John Burgess as prosecutor Richard Latham asked him about the alleged rape and sexual assault of the mother in her home in December 2011.

Khatkar claims that he was previously in a relationship with the woman and that, on that night, she had begged him to get back with her and had performed sex acts on him.

But the woman told the jury that she had met Khatkar for the first time a few days before the alleged attack.

Mr Latham said Khatkar's version of events was a "fantasy".

Khatkar replied: "This is your fantasy – you're trying to make something up that hasn't happened."

He accused Mr Latham of hiding the truth from the jury and said he had been acquitted twice already of the allegations against him by this woman.

Khatkar asked why the jury had not been given the previous statements by the witness to see that she had lied.

He then turned to Judge Burgess and said: "You're not running this trial fairly."

To which the judge responded: "If I'm not running it fairly, it will be answered elsewhere."

Some minutes later, the judge sent the jury out after Khatkar attempted to read out what he claimed was a previous statement made by the woman.

Judge Burgess also told Khatkar to "stop giving speeches".

During cross-examination, Khatkar called Mr Latham a muppet and an idiot and told him to shut up.

He said that a lie detector should be brought into court to prove he was telling the truth.

Judge Burgess sent the jury out on three more occasions.

At one point Mr Latham asked the defendant: "Mr Khatkar, are you going to go on bullying me?"

Khatkar responded: "Is that what you are going to try to do – paint me as a bully now, so I get convicted of rape?

"Put the truth in front of the jury because my life is at stake."

Mr Latham replied that every woman who had accused him of an attack had described him as a bully.

Last week, Khatkar told the jury he had a medical condition that made it painful for him to have sex.

Mr Latham put to him that, in his police interview after he was arrested on suspicion of attacking the woman in 2011, he had told the officer the sex had gone on for ages.

Mr Latham continued: "If you really had this disability you talk about, you would never have described what you were doing in your interview."

Khatkar replied: "I was hung-over, shocked and sat there being accused of rape.

"I didn't know if someone had forced her to make allegations. I was trying to save her life as well.

The trial continues.
