Cansdell-Sherriff on way in for Albion

BURTON Albion are bringing in Preston North End defender Shane Cansdell-Sherriff on a three-month loan.

Manager Gary Rowett needs cover at centre-half due to the suspensions of Ian Sharps and Marcus Holness.

He had also been looking at bringing in a left-sided central defender to balance the back four.

Australian Cansdell-Sherriff, 30, fits the bill perfectly and knows Sharps from when they played together at Shrewsbury Town.

He will come straight into the starting XI for Saturday's home clash with Scunthorpe United, partnering Zander Diamond in the middle, with Phil Edwards staying at right-back.

Should the 93-day loan prove successful, the Telegraph understands the club will extend the deal until the end of the season.

While Holness has impressed so far this campaign, his red card in the 2-1 defeat at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday has caused Rowett a massive headache with Sharps already banned.

Cansdell-Sherriff provides a natural option in the left of a pair and brings even more experience at the back.

He has played more than 250 games in the Football League for Shrewsbury, Preston, Tranmere Rovers and Rochdale.
