A HOSPITAL doctor has been suspended from his duties after he was charged with exposing himself in public.

Now a warrant is out for the arrest of Dr Ahmed Sharaf after he failed to attend a court hearing.

Dr Sharaf, of Victoria Crescent, Burton, had been bailed to appear at Burton Magistrates' Court where he was expected to enter a plea to a charge of indecent exposure.

Dr Sharaf, who is believed to work at the accident and emergency department in Burton's Queen's Hospital, was originally charged with exposing himself on Friday, July 19, and was bailed to attend court on Thursday last week.

The alleged incident is said to have happened at 5.40pm on Sunday, June 9, in Station Street, close to Burton Railway Station. It is thought Dr Sharaf worked as a speciality doctor in emergency medicine in the hospital's emergency department.

Craig Stenhouse, the medical director at Queen's Hospital, said: "The Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been informed about this case and as a neutral act the doctor has been suspended pending the outcome of the case.

"All the appropriate regulatory bodies have been informed."

It is believed Dr Sharaf was nominated for a hospital award last year for his "constant loyalty and support of the emergency department."

Police confirmed that they were continuing their search for the doctor in connection with the warrant for his arrest.
