THREE women and a teenage girl have been arrested on suspicion of knifing a man.

A man in his 30s was also in custody last night following the alleged attack, in Normanton Road, late on Tuesday night.

A Derbyshire police spokesman said they had all been arrested on suspicion of wounding.

Last night, the victim – understood to be in his 20s – remained in a critical condition in hospital.

The spokesman said the man was being treated for a stab wound to the stomach, after police were called to reports of a disturbance outside the Rosehill Business Centre at about 11.05pm.

Normanton councillor Jangir Khan said he was "shocked" by the incident.

He said: "It is quite concerning. I don't know what the issues were behind it but it is quite shocking for the community."

Grzegorz Badowski, 29, lives close to where the incident happened. He said: "I looked out of the window and saw lots of police and an ambulance. I hope the man is okay."

Mariusz Lozowski, 31, also lives in the area. He said: "The first I knew about it was when it was on the news in the morning. It's quite shocking. It's a busy road so there must have been witnesses."

The incident has happened two months after a weapons amnesty was held in Normanton Road. A mobile police station was set up to allow people to hand in weapons.

Police are appealing to anyone who was on Normanton Road at the time to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to call Derbyshire police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
