A DOG owner is appealing to members of the public who may have seen her beloved missing pet.

Mushroom, an 11-year-old basset hound, went missing while on a walk with her owner Jayne Tindall, on Sunday, July 14, at around 11.15am.

They were walking, along with Piglet, a dachshund and Jack Russell cross, on the riverside path that runs between Elvaston Castle and Alvaston Park, when Mushroom was startled and ran off.

Jayne said: "She ran over the bridge that goes over the river at the back of the Raynesway Recycling Centre and, after numerous searches in that area, she has sadly still not been found.

"I stayed for around two hours shouting and calling her, before taking Piglet home and then going back to look some more. Mushroom is very timid and shy and she'll be very frightened out in the world on her own."

Mushroom has a black back, a black tail, with a white tip and all-white legs. She has a tan head and ears. She is micro-chipped.

Jayne, 38, said: "She must be hungry now. She wouldn't normally go to strangers but, if they had food, she might."

Mushroom has lived with Jayne and her husband, Gavin, 44, since she was a puppy and knows the area well. She said: "I'm worried she's trapped somewhere because I'm sure she'd be able to find her way home. We just want her home safe."

Jayne, of Excelsior Avenue, Alvaston, said that Piglet was missing Mushroom and pining for her.

She said: "When we're out of the house on walks, Piglet is fine, but when we're in the house she is pining for Mushroom.

"She doesn't know what to do without her."

Jayne said that the community has been rallying around trying to help look for Mushroom.

She said: "I've been walking around looking for her, asking people if they've seen her. I've put posters up and local businesses have asked their employees to keep their eyes peeled."

There was what was believed to be a sighting of Mushroom on Wednesday, July 17, in the evening in the Rose and Crown area at Chellaston but she apparently shot off through the bushes. No one has seen her since.

If anyone has any sightings please e-mail jaynetindall @googlemail.com. Alternatively, call the Telegraph newsroom on 01332 253053 and we'll pass a message on.
