A BURTON shop has been found selling illicit vodka containing a chemical used in industrial solvents.
The trading standards team at Staffordshire County Council has now seized six bottles of illicit vodka, which has been described as "potentially hazardous".
The authority is warning people and businesses to contact them if they spot any counterfeit alcohol.
This latest seizure from the unnamed Burton shop is a new type of vodka which contains t-Butanol, which is a chemical used in industrial solvents.
If drunk, it can cause health problems which include stomach problems, headaches, seizures and heart and respiration problems.
The bottles have black labels with a red star and little other writing.
Councillor Mike Lawrence, the council's communities leader, said: "Our continued efforts to combat the sale of counterfeit alcohol have been a huge success and have had a positive effect on communities across Staffordshire."
