A DERBYSHIRE house builder has teamed up with other developers to back a government scheme promoting custom-built properties.

Fairgrove Homes, in Ilkeston, is backing the Government's Custom Build scheme, which aims to address a shortfall in the housing market.

Between 250,000 and 300,000 new homes are needed each year for the next 20 years if demand continues, according to the National Self Build Association.

Fairgrove Homes is one of a handful of private developers supporting NASBA by contributing information to a guide aimed at fellow private sector builders and developers.

Managing director Steve Midgley said: "We are now seeing definite interest in custom build properties, as buyers recognise they can save money as they pay a lower stamp duty land tax.

"There is also the opportunity to have a 'customised' home, with different house models to choose from. It's perfect for those who want a say in the design of their new home."
