A BIKE centre that would be a "one-stop shop" for cyclists is expected to be given the go-ahead by the city council's cabinet next week.
The new "hub" would be created at the former Bennetts warehouse in Full Street.
It would feature secure cycle racks, showers, changing facilities, an accessories shop, repairs service and space for cycle events, meetings and forums.
The council is set to lease the former warehouse and then "upgrade" the premises before subletting it to community interest company, Park Bikeworks.
The project would be funded using £497,000 from Government funding allocated to the council to provide more environmentally-friendly transport, and £170,000 from the Derby Enterprise Growth Fund, aimed at creating jobs in and around the city.
A council spokeswoman said an opening date had not yet been confirmed.
Councillor Asaf Afzal, cabinet member for planning, environment and public protection, said: "The bike park and cycle hub would be a key component of our successful £4.9 million Local Sustainable Transport Fund bid to the Government as it would generate new business opportunities and provide free secure cycle parking.
"It supports our ambition as a council to reduce carbon emissions, generate economic growth and improve physical activity."
A final decision on the project will be made by councillors at a cabinet meeting next Wednesday.
Officers have drawn up a report for cabinet members which says the facility "would be sustained through funding generated from cycle sales, including bikes designed and made in Derby, repairs and servicing, refreshments and physiotherapy services."
It adds that the centre would "create 12 full-time jobs and act as a destination venue for current cyclists and more importantly create an environment conducive for people wishing to get on their bikes".
