OFFICE workers had a lucky escape after a sports car smashed into their building.

Ten people had to be evacuated from buildings in High Street, Heanor, after the crash involving a Porsche 911 at 3pm yesterday.

There were no injuries but the fire brigade was concerned with the structural safety of the buildings and ordered people out.

Alyson Birch, business service manager at KLN Accountancy Services, which was evacuated, said: "The first thing I knew about it was the bang when it hit.

"The car spun round and ended up facing the wrong way round.

"You could tell he wasn't speeding. There were four people in the car, a gentleman, a lady and two children but luckily they were all fine.

"If they had gone through our window we have a lad sitting on the other side who would have been hit.

"He also just missed someone, a customer of ours, who was standing looking at his paperwork before he was coming into our office.

"Fortunately he managed to hit right on the support pillar. We have got to get the electric looked at as they were right behind where it was."

High Street was closed while the structure was surveyed and electrics checked but the road was reopened by police just after 4.40pm.
