POLICE are examining CCTV footage and looking for witnesses following an alleged assault in the city's Westfield Centre.
Officers were called to the centre at 5.20pm on Thursday after an argument broke out between two groups of teenagers.
A police spokeswoman said: "Both groups were in school uniform so we are hoping the CCTV footage will shed more light on which schools the pupils were from.
"We understand that one girl was allegedly hit in the face by a male after she had either pushed or punched him.
"The incident appears to have started with a verbal disagreement between at least two groups of 14-and-15-year-olds and escalated into physical attacks."
The incident happened near to Shoe Zone on level one and anyone who witnessed what happened should contact Derbyshire police on 101.
