THE leader of Derbyshire's Lib Dem group lost his Matlock seat to Labour's Andy Botham.
Mr Botham arrived at County Hall to loud cheers after his surprise win over Steve Flitter.
He told the Derby Telegraph: "No-one can remember the last time Matlock had a Labour councillor. I think it was Charles White and I went to a school named after him – that's how long ago it was.
"I'm really, really pleased. I've not thought about how I will celebrate. It will be nice to see my family as I haven't seen them much during the campaign."
Tory leader Andrew Lewer regained his Ashbourne seat by a landslide to defy UKIP's claims that he would lose the seat.
Labour's Irene Ratcliffe won the Wirksworth seat, having lost out at the 2009 election.
Tory Michael Longden, who served as a cabinet member since 2009, retained his Derwent Valley seat.
Four of the six seats in the Derbyshire Dales remain Conservative.
