THOUSANDS of Derby County fans, the club and players paid a poignant tribute to the six Philpott children at the weekend. A minute's silence was held before the Rams' home game against Ipswich to honour the youngsters who died in a tragic fire started by their parents at their Victory Road council house. One of the victims, Duwayne, 13 was a season ticket holder at Derby County. He died along with Jade Philpott, 10, and brothers John, nine, Jack, eight, Jessie, six and Jayden, five, last May. Their names were read out before the tribute was paid and displayed on the club's electronic scoreboard as both the Derby and Ipswich players gathered in a semi-circle opposite each other, heads bowed and with their arms around each other's shoulders. Derby Telegraph journalist and Rams season ticket holder Jill Gallone said: "You couldn't hear a pin drop at Pride Park during those 60 seconds, and that is pretty impressive when you consider there were more than 23,000 people there. Both the Rams fans and Ipswich supporters respected the silence. "It was an emotional moment for everyone, the players, club officials and fans. Everyone knows about this horrific story, loss of life and subsequent court case which has made headlines across the world. It was good to be given the opportunity to remember the children who perished. "After the high profile court case ended last week, it was a fitting tribute to the children who lost their lives and one supporters were very was happy to be involved with. "The Philpott case put Derby on the map for all the wrong reasons and people appreciated the opportunity to show they cared. Full marks to Derby County for making it happen."
