ALL eyes will be on Derbyshire's spectacular surroundings as the BBC's new flagship drama filmed in the Peak District airs tonight.
The Village was filmed in a number of county locations including Hayfield, Chapel-en-le-Frith and Edale.
The first episode of the six-part series, which stars John Simm and Maxine Peake, is on at 9pm.
It was filmed with support from Derbyshire County Council and Visit Peak District, through a national agency called Creative England, which provided production support and a contact for the local authorities.
The Village was made by Company Pictures, the firm behind Shameless, Elizabeth I, and The Lakes.
As soon as executive producer John Griffin visited the picturesque village of Hayfield, he said he knew he had found the main location.
Filming subsequently took place at The Old Vicarage, The Royal Hotel, the cricket club and the library in Hayfield.
Other Derbyshire landmarks used included Edale train station, Glossop Church, Far Coombes Farm, in Charlesworth and The Playhouse Theatre in Chapel-en-le-Frith.
The Village is written by BAFTA-winning writer Peter Moffat, with the first series beginning in 1914 and ending in 1920.
The camera never leaves the village. Births, deaths, love and betrayal, great political events, upheavals in national identity, ways of working, rules, sex, religion, class, the shaping of modern memory – all are reflected through the lives of the villagers.
The programme also stars Juliet Stevenson, Bill Jones, Nico Mirallegro, Rupert Evans, Charlie Murphy, Augustus Prew, Jim Cartwright and Emily Beecham.
Charlie Thompson, location manager for The Village, said the experience of filming in the Peak District was "overwhelmingly positive".
And Chris Hordley, Creative England's production liaison manager for the area, said: "It's great to see England's diverse countryside showcased in this high-profile new drama series which is already set to return."
