A FRESH arrest has been made in connection with an incident where six Derby men were allegedly among a gang that burst into a restaurant, assaulted diners and smashed windows.
The 24-year-old was detained on Tuesday morning in connection with the incident at the Moghul Durbar curry house, in Leicester.
He was in police custody on the same night being questioned.
Seven men have already been charged with conspiring to commit violent disorder and have appeared in court in Leicester.
They are charged in connection with an alleged incident at the restaurant in East Park Road, Spinney Hills, on the evening of January 14.
Six of the accused men are from Derby. They are Surjit Pandher, 28, a former prison warden, of Northfield, Stenson Fields; Gurmukh Singh Cheema, 25, of Harrington Street; Ranjit Singh, 21, of Harrington Street; Sundeep Singh Sangha, 25, a gas heating engineer, of Wordsworth Avenue; Rajveer Singh Sangha, 24, a college student, of Wordsworth Avenue; and Ranvir Singh, 21, of Harrington Street.
The seventh defendant is Kahan Khalsa, 26, of Rectory Gardens, Oldbury, Birmingham.
A large group of people allegedly burst into the recently opened premises and smashed windows.
A number of people were assaulted and six people went to Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment to serious and minor injuries.
After an application made by the Leicester Mercury during a hearing at Leicester Crown Court, Judge Michael Pert QC lifted an order made earlier by city magistrates forbidding the press from reporting the addresses of the accused.
The restriction was lifted despite requests from all defence advocates for it to remain. Judge Pert said there were insufficient legal grounds for making such an order.
No pleas have yet been entered and the case was adjourned. All seven men were remanded back into custody.
In the immediate aftermath of the alleged attack on the Moghul Durbar, police called for calm as they investigated a series of attacks on businesses close to the scene of the rampage.
Four shops in one Leicester street, a few hundred yards from the restaurant, were targeted at 3am.
Traders arrived at work to find their doors and windows had been smashed.
A number of nearby cars had also been damaged.
