RESIDENTS are being reminded by police to lock doors and windows after a number of sneak-in burglaries in the Somercotes, South Normanton and Swanwick areas.
Items including gaming equipment and cash have been taken from four properties during the past week and on each occasion thieves got in through an unlocked door.
Two incidents have happened in South Normanton, one in Swanwick and the latest one in Riber Avenue, Somercotes, on Wednesday, March 6.
A woman had been asleep on her sofa between 11pm and 11.30pm when she was woken up by her dog.
She noticed a person stood in her hallway, who then quickly left through the back door. Nothing had been stolen from the property.
Safer Neighbourhood Sergeant Simon Street said: "There have been a number of sneak-in type burglaries in over the past few days, where a thief has taken an opportunity to get into a home through an unlocked door.
"We would like to remind residents to be vigilant and make sure they keep their property secure, closing and locking any doors or windows when you are out, in the garden or even just in another part of the house."
Anyone with any information should call Derbyshire police on 101.
