The trial of Mick and Mairead Philpott and family friend Paul Mosley, who are accused of causing the death of six children, enters its 13th day today.
The trio has pleaded not guilty to six counts of manslaughter.
Duwayne Philpott, 13, his sister, Jade, 10, and their brothers, John, nine, Jack, eight, Jesse, six and Jayden, five, all died from the effects of smoke inhalation after flames tore through their home in Victory Road, Allenton, on May 11 last year.Day 13 of the trial4.15pm The trial has been adjourned until 10.15am tomorrow.4pm The court is hearing of sexual activity between the three defendants.3.45pm The police tapes being played to the courtroom capture Philpott saying to his wife: "You know what will hang him [Mr Taylor]? The fact he had our petrol can and it had petrol in it."3.30pm On May 19, the police covert recordings hear a group in the Philpotts' hotel room discussing their neighbours Adam Taylor and Vicky Ferguson.
Philpott is heard to say: "I never liked them from day one. Never trusted them."
The court hears that, during the same conversation, Philpott thinks he has linked the fire to Adam Taylor.
On the tape, he claims Mr Taylor has had a relationship with Philpott's former mistress Lisa Willis.
He says: "I will kill her, she's covering for him."3.20pm On May 17, after Mairead had been interviewed by police, Philpott is heard to say to her on the tape: "I was expecting that you was going to stray." 2.50pm At 11.41pm, after the press conference, the tape captures Mick Philpott talking about his ex-mistress Lisa Willis.
"She's brought our kids up and we can't even turn round to her and say do you want to come to the funeral?" he said.2.45pm The night before the Philpotts held a press conference, the police recording hears Mick Philpott saying: "My main thing tomorrow is to thank everybody."
The same night, at 10.34pm, the tape hears Philpott murmur to his wife: "You make sure you stick to your story." 2.20pm The court is about to hear police covert recordings of the Philpotts' hotel room at the Premier Inn in Uttoxeter New Road, Derby, when the couple were housed there after the fire.
Earphones have been provided for the jury and defendants.
The first witness is DC Martin Hare from the special operations department. He said the bedroom at the hotel was bugged and listened to in "real time" 24 hours a day. There was also covert video surveillance watching who went in and out of the room.
The evidence took eight months for the police to put together.10.45am The first witness of the day is Melissa John, girlfriend of Michael Mosley - Paul Mosley's nephew. She is giving evidence from behind screens.
She told the court that in late June Paul Mosley came round bragging that he was on bail for six counts of murder.
She said: "He said he knew more than he had told the police. He said it was a plan and something had gone wrong."
She said in September, four months after the fire, he told her: "What if I were to tell you that we rehearsed this (the fire) six weeks before?" She said he was to "kick in the back door and save the children."
She told the court that Mosley told her Mairead was to take the blame but the rehearsal did not go to plan.
Miss John said: "When Paul was released on bail he started to brag to anyone and everyone that he had been discharged from custody. I asked him if Mick and Mairead were capable of starting the fire and he said `I don't know but if they did then it is something that has gone wrong'."
Under cross examination, Ben Nolan QC, for Mosley, asked Miss John: "Did he (Mosley) want to tell you things other people did not know, that he had secrets to tell, that he was going to sue the police?".
Miss John said: "Yes."
She said: "At the time Paul was telling me things (about the fire) I felt sick. I did not want to hear any more. On the night he was charged it made me realise that the things he had been telling me about rehearsing the fire might be true."
Yesterday, Nottingham Crown Court heard that Paul Mosley was allegedly overheard saying: "I can't let Mick take all the blame."
Mosley also said: "I might turn myself in," a witness told his trial.
Another witness claimed he heard Mosley say he "knew more about the fire than the police did".
In other evidence, Mosley and Philpott were seen at the Royal Derby Hospital on the morning of the fire.
They went down the side of the hospital for half-an-hour, the court heard.
Witness Claire Smith, who said Mosley looked so much like Philpott she initially thought he was his brother, said: "He had just lost five children and another was in the hospital.
"I thought, 'that's a bit strange.
"Why would you go and talk to a mate for half-an-hour?'"
Police officer PC Joanne Halford said Philpott wore the death of his children as a "badge of honour".
She said Philpott 56, seemed "jovial" when she spoke to him at the hospital just a week after the fire.
She said when Mosley's brother, Brian, and Philpott approached her outside the hospital, Mr Mosley said to her: "Don't you know who this is? It is Mick Philpott, father of the six dead children."
