POLICE are warning people in Allestree to be on their guard against bogus callers in the neighbourhood. Officers from the Darley and Allestree safer neighbourhood policing team have received reports of teenagers knocking on doors stating they are from Kedleston Scout Group and collecting money for a trip. The calls took place in the West Bank Avenue area – off Duffield Road – on Sunday, February 24 between 2.30 - 6.00pm. PCSO Linda Ball from the team said: "Residents need to be on their guard and verify who the caller is. Genuine scouts do not collect from door to door so anyone claiming to be a scout and asking for money will be bogus. "We are asking people to ensure their elderly relatives and friends are wary of people selling items or claiming to represent a local group. "They should be reminded not to hand over any money without contacting a relative, police or trading standards for advice. "Genuine callers will be happy to wait while you check or verify who they state they are." If you have any concerns, contact your local safer neighbourhood policing team on 101 or visit www.derbyshire.police.uk
