THE trial of parents and a friend accused of killing six young children in a house fire in Derby continues today.
Mick Philpott, 56, his wife Mairead Philpott, 31, and family friend Paul Mosley, 45, all deny manslaughter of the children.
Duwayne Philpott, 13, his sister Jade, 10, and their brothers John, nine, Jack, eight, Jesse, six, and Jayden, five, all died from the effects of smoke inhalation after flames tore through their home in Victory Road, Allenton, on May 11 last year. Day 7 of the trial:12.25pm: Mrs Bright tells the court how Philpott came over to her two days before the fire and told her he had a plan.
She said: "He was very confident he would get the children back."12.05pm: The next witness will be Charlotte Bright, the last of the four mothers.
Mrs Bright also went to the Philpott couple's wedding and her son used to be taken to school by Philpott, when he was dropping off his own children. 11.45am: Mrs McCready also recalls hearing Philpott say he had a plan. She said: "He said she (Ms Willis) would be sorry."
The case is adjourned until 12.05pm. 11.35am: The next witness will be Kerry McCready, another of the mothers. 11.30am: Mrs France tells the court how Philpott also told her he "had a plan" and was very confident he would get custody of the children after the court hearing, which was due to take place on the morning of the fire.11.20am: The next witness will be mother Seaneen France, who also has children at the same school as five of the six youngsters who died in the fire. 11.10am: The court hears from Mrs Beck how, in the days before the fire, Philpott told her "he was not going to let Lisa get away with this".
She said: "He said he had something up his sleeve."11am: The next witness will be Denise Beck, one of four mothers who spoke to Philpott at the school gates before the fire. 10.45am: Mrs Mosley tells the jury Philpott told her how, the day Ms Willis left, he drank half a bottle of brandy and, the next day, took pills and had to be taken to hospital - but denied it was an attempt at suicide. 10.40am: Nottingham Crown Court hears how, in a conversation between Mrs Mosley and Philpott, he told her his ex-partner Lisa Willis would sometimes become violent.
He said they would play-fight but sometimes she would go over the top.
Mrs Mosley said: "(Philpott) said she broke his nose once, kicked and punched him. He said, when she drank, she became violent"10.30am: Mick Philpott is today dressed in a black suit, white shirt and pink tie.
