BRANCHES of Barclays Bank in Derbyshire appear to have escaped the worst of plans to axe thousands of jobs.
Barclays has announced it is to shed at least 3,700 jobs as part of a "strategic overhaul", which aims to cut costs by £1.7 billion.
Out of that number around 1,900 jobs will be shed across it European retail and business banking arm.
Barclays has around 10 branches in Derbyshire - including St Peter's Street and Osmaston Road, in Derby.
It also has a business centre based in Sir Frank Whittle Road.
But Barclays said very few of the job losses would be in the UK, with the bulk of them affecting staff in continental Europe.
